Building Financial Confidence Through Practice

We started brenolavixa back in 2019 because we noticed something missing in financial education. People were getting bombarded with theory but rarely had the chance to actually practice what they'd learned in realistic scenarios.

Our teaching approach focuses on hands-on application. You work through real-world financial situations similar to what Australian households face every day. Budget planning. Debt management. Investment decisions. The kind of stuff that matters when you're sitting at your kitchen table trying to figure things out.

Over the past seven years, we've refined our methods based on what actually helps people retain information and build lasting skills. It's not about memorizing formulas—it's about developing judgment and confidence in your financial decisions.

How We Developed Our Approach

Our teaching methodology evolved through trial, feedback, and a lot of conversations with people who were struggling to manage their finances despite having access to plenty of information.

1

Early 2019 — Starting Point

We launched with traditional workshop formats. Lectures, presentations, handouts. The content was solid, but retention rates disappointed us. People left feeling informed but not necessarily equipped to take action.

2

Mid 2020 — First Major Shift

We introduced simulation exercises based on actual client scenarios (anonymized, naturally). Participants worked through budget decisions with realistic constraints. The engagement level jumped noticeably. People asked better questions and retained concepts longer.

3

2022 — Personalized Pathways

We realized one-size-fits-all doesn't work for financial education. Someone managing student debt needs different skills than someone planning for retirement. We restructured our programs to offer customized learning paths based on individual circumstances and goals.

4

2024 — Extended Support Model

Financial situations change. What works today might not work next year. We added follow-up sessions and ongoing access to resources so people could revisit concepts as their circumstances evolved. This made a substantial difference in long-term outcomes.

5

2026 — Current Framework

Our teaching methods now combine structured learning with flexible application. Participants work through progressively complex scenarios, receive feedback from experienced practitioners, and build skills they can adapt to their specific situations. We're seeing people make better financial decisions months and years after completing programs.

Common Obstacles and How We Address Them

Information Overload

Financial advice is everywhere online, often contradictory. People get paralyzed trying to figure out which guidance applies to their situation.

Our Response

We start with your specific circumstances and filter out irrelevant information. You learn what matters for your situation right now, not everything that might possibly be relevant someday.

Abstract Concepts

Terms like compound interest or asset allocation make sense in theory but feel disconnected from daily financial reality.

Our Response

Every concept gets tied to practical examples you can relate to. We use real numbers from Australian households and walk through decisions step-by-step so you see exactly how principles apply.

Lack of Accountability

Reading books or watching videos rarely translates into changed behavior. Without external accountability, most people revert to old habits.

Our Response

Regular check-ins and progress reviews keep you moving forward. You set specific goals and report back on implementation. This structure helps bridge the gap between knowing and doing.

Fear of Judgment

Many people avoid seeking help because they're embarrassed about their current financial situation or past mistakes.

Our Response

We've worked with people in all kinds of situations. Our focus stays on moving forward from wherever you are now. No lectures about what you should have done differently five years ago.

Long-Term Results

We stay in touch with participants long after programs end. Here's what sustained financial capability looks like when people develop solid fundamentals.

Portrait of Henrik Lindqvist

Henrik Lindqvist

Completed program in March 2023

Henrik came to us with significant credit card debt and no clear plan. He worked through our debt management scenarios and built a structured repayment approach.

Two years later, he's debt-free and has started building an emergency fund. More importantly, he now recognizes financial warning signs early and adjusts his spending before problems develop. The skills stuck because he practiced them repeatedly in realistic situations.

Vesna Marjanovic

Completed program in August 2022

Vesna joined our program when she was overwhelmed by competing financial priorities—student loans, retirement savings, and buying a home all felt equally urgent.

Through our prioritization exercises, she developed a phased approach that addressed her most pressing needs first. She's now three years into successfully executing that plan and recently reached out for a refresher session as she enters a new life stage. That's exactly how financial education should work—building foundations that support ongoing growth.
